Goodbye (old) Yankee Stadium, Hello (new) Yankee Stadium

The last game at the original, historic Yankee Stadium will go down as a 7-3 Yankees victory over the Baltimore Orioles on September 21, 2008.  The next time the Bronx Bombers take the field for a regular-season home game will be on April 16, 2009 against the Cleveland Indians.  When Derek Jeter leads his team on to the field it will be at New Yankee Stadium, the $1.6 Billion dollar ballpark the Yanks are moving into.

How far will the NY Yankees have to travel to get from old Yankee Stadium to new Yankee Stadium?   Just across the street.  The new ballpark is being built just across East 161st Street on the site of the site of the old Macombs Dam Park.  The Google Map below shows the current Yankee Stadium and an older satellite view with Macombs Dam Park.  The next time Google updates their satellite image of Yankee Stadium you’ll see the new stadium being constructed, which is already in-progress if you use Google “Street View” to see it.
