“Lightweight Lightening” at Erwin Center April 4th in Austin, Texas
Golden Boy Promotions present “Lightweight Lightening,” a lightweight Pay-Per-View event that will feature eight 135-pound men in four match-ups that will most likely re-arrange the standings in this highly competitive division of boxing, all in one night!
The main event will feature the revered, Venezuelan born, undefeated Edwin Valers (24-0, 24KOs) and the hard-hitting Columbian, Antonio Pitalua (46-3, 40 KOs) for 12-round bout for the WBC Interim World Lightweight crown.
But that’s not all there is to talk about. In fact there are going to be 3 other riveting fights that will preface this title fight. One of the c0-featured fights that will happen prior top this main event, will be a 10-round square-off between a former two-time Cuban-born World Champion and Olympic medalist, Joel Casamayor (36-4-1, 22 KOs) against the California native and former World Champion, Julio Diaz (36-4, 26 KOs). As their records show, we can anticipate this to be one exciting fight.
Another of the co-featured fights showcases Austin’s own Jesus Chavez (44-4, 30 KOs), a former Lightweight World Champion who is hoping to capture win when he faces Australian Michael Katsidis (24-2, 20 KOs) who likes to entertain fans with his Arturo Gatti-like performances that have become a sort of trademark for him.
The last fight (or actually the first) to be featured in “Lightweight Lightening” will be the entertaining Argentinean Jorge Barrios (47-4-1, 34 KOs) against another Texas fighter and former World Champion, Carlos Hernandez (43-7-1, 24 KOs), in another 10-round match-up.
President of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar de la Hoya, said “We have never done something like this before, pitting eight of the world’s best lightweights agains each other on one card.” This statement in itself should prove this fight to be, not only exciting and entertaining, but history in the making.
