Will Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao Fight on May 2?


The question that has been consuming the boxing world for the last 5 years is when will Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao fight? Rumors have been flying around for weeks of a coming fight between the boxing titans. Those rumors rose to new heights on Sunday when it was leaked that Mayweather would announce the fight at the NBA All-Star Game. Although that announcement of a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight did not happen, the general consensus is that we are moving closer to “the Fight” that we all have been waiting for, for years.

The fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather is expected to be one of the highest grossing fights in the history of boxing. The purse is expected to be in the $250 million range, which would be split 60/40 in Mayweather’s favor. With that much money on the line, it is hard to imagine either fighter passing it up.


Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the best boxer of this generation. Or at least that is what Money Mayweather wants to be remembered as. The only fighter that can challenge that claim is Manny Pacquiao. With over 100 wins combined between the two fighters, at this point in both of their careers, the only win that would elevate each of their places in history would be each other. Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Maywether would be on par with Frazier vs. Ali, or Tyson vs. Holyfield.

T.V. Contracts

One of the largest driving forces behind boxing matches is the pay-per view contracts signed by both fighters. The problem with this particular matchup, is that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is under contract with Showtime, while Manny Pacquiao is under contract with HBO. Navagating the intricacies of both contracts is no easy task, especially with the amount of money that is on the line in this super-fight.

Nothing is scheduled

The biggest reason to doubt that a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao won’t happen, is because nothing is scheduled yet. If the Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao saga has taught us anything, it is to believe it when we see it. We have had all of these same rumors in the past. The fight is happening, the fight isn’t happening, and the results have always been disappointing to boxing fans.

One thing that is certain, if Mayweather and Pacquiao get into the ring against each other, it will be at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The MGM Grand Garden Arena is one of the top boxing venues in the world, and has hosted numerous fights for both Mayweather and Pacquiao. The previous 10 Floyd Mayweather fights have taken place at the MGM Grand and the iconic fighter has fought exclusively there for some time now.

When will Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight?

If the fighters agree to a contract to fight against each other, it will happen on May 2nd, 2015. This has long been the scheduled date for Mayweather’s next fight and regardless of the opponent, will be the next time that Floyd Mayweather steps into the ring.
