Buckeyes vs. Tar Heels is This Weekends Top Basketball Game

The 12th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes will clash with the 24th ranked North Carolina Tar Heels this Saturday evening as part of the CBS Sports Classic in Chicago, Illinois. Ohio State enters the game with a 9-1 record with the Tar Heels currently at 7-3.

The game will take place at 1:00pm and will be nationally televised on CBS. Immediately following Ohio State vs. North Carolina will be the top ranked Kentucky Wildcats facing the UCLA Bruins. Rarely does one regular season “classic” feature four bigger programs than Ohio State, North Carolina, Kentucky, and UCLA.

Despite the four power programs, the average price for Ohio State vs. North Carolina basketball tickets is currently only $101. In fact, fans can find tickets for as little as $13 on the secondary market. And each ticket will grant you access for both games. Though college football bowl games are starting up on Saturday, there are very few intriguing matchups taking place. The Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins play at 4:30 Saturday afternoon in a rare NFL Saturday game, but other than that, there are very few sporting events overshadowing the CBS Sports Classic. So it’s a bit strange to see how tickets are so cheap on the secondary market.

The Tar Heels have dropped three games thus far in 2014, falling to Butler, Iowa, and Kentucky. The Butler loss was a part of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament to start the year, and Kentucky
happened at Rupp Arena, but the Iowa loss occurred at home in North Carolina.

They have yet to have a truly impressive win with their best victory coming against Florida on the road. Nonetheless, Ohio State has yet to get a big win, either, losing their lone game against a ranked opponent on December 2nd when they fell to Louisville 64-55. Other than a victory against Marquette in the second game of the season, the Buckeyes have not faced an opponent on the same level as North Carolina.

So both teams will get an opportunity on Saturday to boost their resume before March. The Tar Heels are much more battle-tested, but perhaps that will work against them, rather than for them.

The Buckeyes football team has quite a big game coming up as well. Ohio State will be traveling to New Orleans to face the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Sugar Bowl. It is one half of the first ever College Football Playoffs with the winner moving on to Dallas to face either Oregon or Florida State in the national championship game.

The average price for Sugar Bowl tickets is currently $408, higher than any other bowl game this season. It costs $182 just to get in the door of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
So the Buckeyes football team has made the “Final Four” for college football. For the basketball team, they still have a long road ahead of them to get to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis for the 2015 Final Four, but it is certainly doable. And the path starts with a strong showing against North Carolina on Saturday.
