Oklahoma City Thunder is newest NBA team
The new Oklahoma City NBA franchise was officially given a team name and mascot this week, the Thunder. The Oklahoma City Thunder are the newest NBA team, a reincarnation of the Seattle Supersonics which was moved by team owner Clay Bennett.
The OKC Thunder will begin their inaugural season this Fall, and play their home games at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City. The Ford Center currently seats just under 20,000 fans for a basketball game, and will be upgraded to include other features necessary to accommodate an NBA franchise.
The Thunder will assume the Sonics old position in the Northwest Division of the NBA’s Western Conference. They will open their 2008-2009 NBA season on October 29th against the Milwaukee Bucks.
