Spurs Make History

Welcome back from what I hope was a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend. Not only was it a three day weekend, but the NBA Conference Finals started and the Stanley Cup Finals start tomorrow. If you have not been keeping up with the NHL Playoffs, the 8th seed Kings have been dominating the competition as they head to Newark for game one of the Finals against the New Jersey Devils. The NBA has been entertaining as well, even though my Lakers were booted out by the Thunder. With that advance, OKC is matched up against the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals. Chris Bosh’s absence from the court has not seemed to cool the Heat too much as they are a game up in the Eastern Conference Finals against Boston.

As the title of this week’s TicketCity Play of the Week implies, I am going black and silver today and giving the Spurs some love. I am not going to single out one specific play this week because what the Spurs have done can not be seen in just one game, or even two. This video is a recap of game one against Oklahoma City Sunday night. The game was your typical conference final game, going back and forth, not ever showing a clear winner until the last seconds of the game. At the end of the fourth quarter, the Spurs came out on top beating the Thunder 101 – 98.

I didn’t just pick this game because it was a game one victory that has set the tone for the rest of the series. I picked this win because it continued the longest winning streak in the franchise history of the Spurs. Nineteen to be exact, eight of which came against the best teams in the NBA as the Spurs swept the Jazz and Clippers in the first two rounds of the Playoffs.

I would love to see the Spurs continue this winning streak all the way to the NBA Finals. If they can continue to keep the streak alive, it will be a true test as OKC, Boston, and Miami are not teams to be taken lightly. But if there is a team that can do it, I think it’s the Spurs. Here’s the Spurs 19th consecutive win and your TicketCity Play of the Week. Go Spurs!
