Texas Rodeo Comes to a Close

2009 marked an impressive year for Houston Rodeo, San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo and Rodeo Austin.  From Taylor Swift and the Jonas Brothers, to the Goo Goo Dolls and Akon, this year didn’t disappoint. This past weekend marked the close of the main Texas rodeo season with the final performances at Rodeo Austin on Saturday night.  And what a blowout it was.  The evening started with the competitive rodeo events including saddle bronc, calf roping and barrell racing.  Mutton Bustin’ is a children’s event that provided what was probably the highlight of the evening as young buccaroos did their best to hold on to sheep just as long as they could. Bull riding followed as the big cowboys took on the real beasts.

Next, Kevin Fowler took the stage and the night really got going.  One might have thought toward the end of his set the evening was winding down, but it was only getting started.  Each year the BulletProof Blowout party that marks the end of the rodeo brings free food and drinks  from sponsors in order to raise money for Texas youth through the tips collected at the party.  And we all know Texans know how to throw a great party.  Music, entertainment (by the scheduled performers as well as a few, um, impromptu acts), auctions, cowbells, dancing on the bar – it was all there.  If you needed a change of pace, there was also a party going on at 100X Club.  Needless to say, there was certainly no shortage of entertainment.  And if you have not ventured outside of the arena to experience some of the other fun at the rodeo, I suggest you do so next year.

So even though the Texas Rodeos have come to an end, it’s not too early to get on our mailing list to be the first to find out about scheduled acts for 2010 in Houston, San Antonio and Dallas.  For now, we still have the year-end championship to look forward when National Finals Rodeo hits Vegas.  You’d think Vegas would throw the best Rodeo party, but I’d wager that Texas could certainly give Vegas a run for its money!
