Woodford Reserve $1000 Derby Auction

Woodford Reserve is once again auctioning off special Kentucky Derby mint juleps to raise money for the Thoroughbred Charities of America, which benefits retired horses and disabled jockeys.

In 2006, Woodford Reserved auctioned off 50 of this special, gold-plated mint juleps for $1000.00 each. And this year they will be auctioning off 132 of them, to equal the number of past Derby winners.

A typical mint julep, in a Derby souvenir glass will cost you approximately $9.00 if you buy it at Churchill Downs on Derby day. So these mint juleps are selling for quite a bit more, but the money is all going for a good cause. And these high-class cocktails feature more than just a golden glass. They will include mint from Ireland, ice from the Bavarian Alps and organic sugar that was grown in Australia.
